Sony DualSense Review: Strongest When the Game Uses Its Features

The DualSense controller's distinctive appeal is how supported games use haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. It is most convincing when those features are part of the games you actually plan to play.

The DualSense controller's distinctive appeal is how supported games use haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. It is most convincing when those features are part of the games you actually plan to play.

Support matters more than the feature name

Sony describes responsive haptics and adaptive-trigger effects in supported titles. On PC, feature availability depends on the game and may require a USB connection. A successful Bluetooth pairing does not mean every feature is active.

For a PlayStation 5 household, the controller is a natural way to add another player. For a PC buyer, the decision deserves a game-by-game check, particularly if the advanced feedback is the main reason for choosing it over another layout.

Comfort and configuration

Try the symmetrical stick placement and the reach to the main controls. Consider whether the trigger effects are enjoyable for the player rather than assuming stronger feedback is always better. Supported settings can be adjusted to suit the experience and accessibility needs.

Think through charging and storage. A controller that is routinely left depleted can make a short gaming session frustrating. A suitable cable or charging station may improve the routine, but verify what is included and what is purchased separately.

Verdict

DualSense is an attractive choice for PS5 use and for compatible PC titles that make meaningful use of its feedback. Its value is less clear when the target games do not support those features or the buyer prefers another stick layout. Check compatibility before buying for PC, establish a charging routine and treat comfort as a first-order requirement. The controller is at its best when the software and player both benefit from what makes it different.
