The Pelican Vault V100 is a useful compact enclosure for a small, deliberately chosen equipment load. It offers a hard shell and an interior that can be organized around the items being carried. Its value comes from matching the case to a specific set of contents rather than choosing the smallest case that can just barely close.
Pelican publishes an interior of 11 by 8 by 4.5 inches and an exterior of 12.28 by 12.03 by 5.16 inches. Those measurements make comparison more straightforward, but cushioning and lid clearance still reduce the practical space available. The shape of the contents matters as much as their longest dimension.
Compact does not mean weightless
A hard case introduces more bulk and weight than a soft pouch around the same small object. That can be worthwhile when the contents need separation from surrounding luggage, but it should be part of the carrying decision. Consider the complete loaded case and how it will fit in the vehicle or storage area used most often.
The V100 uses two push-button latches. A clear, repeatable closure is useful for a case opened frequently, but the user should still check that both latches are properly engaged and the lid is unobstructed. A convenient latch design is not a substitute for inspection.
Pelican sells several Vault configurations and other case families. Do not transfer waterproofing, certification or warranty claims from a different Pelican range to this model. Read the V100's current documentation and choose the intended insert or foam configuration explicitly.
Protection and security are different needs
Foam can help keep items from contacting each other and the shell, but the interior should not be packed so tightly that the lid presses on vulnerable components. The case is most useful when the layout leaves adequate cushioning around a focused load. Keep the interior clean and dry according to the manufacturer's care directions.
The V100 is portable. It should not be represented as a heavy, anchored safe or given an unsupported theft-resistance rating. If used for firearm storage, keep firearms unloaded and prevent access by unauthorized people in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the applicable storage requirements. Secure control of keys and locks remains part of responsible ownership.
For travel, verify current carrier rules separately. A recognizable case brand does not automatically establish that every lock, packed configuration or journey meets the relevant requirements. Plan the trip before relying on the case's transport-oriented appearance.
Our verdict favors the V100 for a small equipment set that benefits from a rigid enclosure and documented dimensions. It is less suitable when frequent contents changes make the interior arrangement inconvenient or when the primary need is permanent secure storage. Buy it after measuring the actual load and allowing room for the protective interior.
