Hario V60 Plastic Dripper 02 Review: A simple cone with room to learn
The lightweight V60 puts brew control in the user’s hands; a scale, suitable filters and a repeatable pour matter more than its low complexity.

The plastic V60 02 is appealing because it separates the brewer from the rest of the coffee system. There is no heater, pump or screen inside the cone. Its job is to hold a suitable filter above a vessel while the user manages the coffee and water. That makes it easy to understand and easy to pack away, but it also makes technique part of the purchase.
The shape gives you control
Hario’s conical design uses spiral ribs and an open outlet rather than a mechanism that meters the entire brew for you. The practical consequence is freedom to change how water meets the grounds. It is also possible to produce very different cups with the same coffee if the grind and pouring pattern vary substantially. A repeatable method is therefore more valuable than a collection of complicated recipes.
For a beginner, the sensible supporting purchases are compatible size-02 filters, a scale and a kettle that can deliver a controlled stream. A dedicated gooseneck kettle can help, but the dripper alone should not be mistaken for a complete coffee station. Compare the total cost with the equipment you already own before deciding that a low-priced cone automatically makes the cheapest setup.
Sizing and materials
Hario lists the 02 for one to four cups, with dimensions of 137 by 116 by 102 millimeters. That capacity description is not a promise of four large café mugs from one small dose. Think in terms of the actual water volume and receiving vessel. The base should sit securely, and the vessel must have enough room for the complete brew.
The classic range includes clear, red and white versions. The clear model is listed as acrylonitrile-styrene resin. Buyers choosing plastic for its lightness should still protect it from crushing in a travel bag and follow the manufacturer’s temperature and cleaning guidance. It is an inexpensive brewing tool, not an indestructible container for loose luggage.
The practical verdict
The V60 is best for someone willing to pay attention for a few minutes. We would choose it for a quiet personal coffee routine, a compact secondary setup or learning how grind and pouring affect a brew. We would choose a machine when the important requirement is making coffee while doing something else.
Its simplicity also makes an upgrade decision easier to judge. If your coffee is inconsistent, first examine the grinder, measurements and routine before replacing the cone with a more decorative material. The plastic 02 already provides a straightforward platform for repeatable brewing. Our rating reflects that useful design and modest ownership burden; it does not claim that we measured extraction or compared flavors in a tasting panel.
Review basis: This is a source-based editorial assessment of the manufacturer’s published specifications, instructions and product design, not a hands-on test. Scores reflect the suitability and tradeoffs discussed here; we have not independently measured performance, durability or taste.
