Review basis: This is a research-based editorial review of manufacturer documentation and published product specifications, not a hands-on test. Ratings reflect documented features and buying tradeoffs; performance claims are attributed to their sources.

Portable in a particular way

Move 2 is best understood as a home speaker that can follow you to another room, a patio or a nearby gathering. At 6.61 pounds, it is not the speaker most people will casually add to a daypack. That distinction is central to its value. Its Wi-Fi connection and Sonos integration are useful when it spends much of its life at home, while Bluetooth and a battery make occasional movement easy. A buyer seeking the smallest holiday speaker is paying for a different set of strengths here.

A broader listening system

The second-generation design uses two tweeters and a woofer to provide stereo reproduction from one enclosure. That is a useful architectural change from the original Move, though a single box still cannot create the physical spacing of two separate speakers. Automatic Trueplay adjusts playback for placement when the required microphones are enabled. It is a practical feature for a speaker that may move between surfaces, but it should not be treated as a cure for every awkward position. Give the speaker room and choose a sensible listening location first.

Connections beyond Bluetooth

Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2 and Sonos app control make Move 2 more flexible inside a connected home than a Bluetooth-only speaker. There is also line-in support through a separate Sonos USB-C adapter. That can be useful for an analog source, but the adapter and cable need to be included in the budget. The USB-C socket is not a universal digital-audio input for any cable you happen to own. If the main purpose is playing a turntable, compare the complete connection arrangement with a conventional pair of powered speakers.

Battery and outdoor use

Sonos claims up to 24 hours of playback, with actual runtime dependent on use. The included charging base supports a convenient home routine: return the speaker to its usual spot rather than reconnecting a cable every time. Its IP56 rating supports dust and water resistance, but it is not the same submersion rating found on some smaller outdoor speakers. The rear handle makes carrying practical, yet the weight remains noticeable. Think of the garden or balcony as a natural extension of its home role rather than assuming it replaces dedicated rugged travel equipment.

Verdict

Buy Move 2 if you want Sonos-style home streaming and genuinely expect to carry the speaker around the property. The battery, base and network features work together in that routine. Choose a smaller Bluetooth speaker for frequent travel, or a stationary speaker if it will rarely leave one shelf. The line-in option adds flexibility, but its extra hardware should solve a real need. Move 2 is strongest when portability means freedom within and around the home, where its network features continue to earn their place.
