Who should consider it

The Moby Smart Sling is a straightforward choice for families who want one infant tub with an adjustable fabric support rather than a separate newborn insert. Its whale-shaped shell is friendly-looking, but the useful part is the sling’s two positions and eventual removal. Those changes give the bath a clear progression as a baby develops. The tradeoff is physical size: this is a shaped rigid tub that needs somewhere to live. A folding bath is easier to justify when every cupboard and bathroom corner is already occupied.

Three stages explained

Skip Hop describes a newborn configuration up to 15 pounds, an infant sling position up to 20 pounds, and a sitter configuration up to 25 pounds. Ages are approximate guidance alongside the child’s abilities. The upper sling position cradles more of the body, while the lower position changes the support for the next stage. Once the child can sit upright, the sling comes out. This is more adaptable than a fixed molded newborn contour, but it requires the caregiver to recognize when the current arrangement no longer fits and follow the instructions for changing it.

Measure the bathroom first

At 27.5 inches long and 19 inches wide, the Moby takes a meaningful share of an adult bathtub. Check the usable space, including any curved sides, before buying. The manufacturer’s instructions specify use in an empty adult tub and warn against sink use. That makes this a poor match for someone planning to bathe a baby at kitchen-counter height. Its drain plug helps with emptying, but the purchase should still be planned around a convenient reach into the bath and a clear place for the caregiver to kneel or sit.

The drying routine is part of ownership

The swivel hook is a practical feature because it gives the empty tub a hanging position after use. The sling can be machine washed on a cold gentle cycle and then hung to dry. Neither feature eliminates the need to rinse, clean and dry the equipment; the fabric introduces an extra drying task compared with an all-plastic support. In a small, poorly ventilated bathroom, think carefully about where the sling will dry fully. A replacement sling is offered separately, which is useful if you need a spare rather than replacing the whole bath.

Buying judgment

Choose the Moby when the adjustable sling and hanging storage fit your bathroom routine. Its design offers a sensible progression without complicated hardware, and the removable fabric makes access for cleaning possible. Skip it if you need a compact folding shape, a sink-compatible setup or the fewest possible wet parts. The strongest comparison is with how you will store and maintain the bath every day, not with the number of stages printed on the box. Continuous adult supervision remains essential in every configuration, including once the sling has been removed.

Recall check for older Australian stock

Australian secondhand-stock check: An Australian recall covers model SH235465 sold by Bloom & Grow Australia from April 2016 through June 2018 because its labeling did not meet the applicable baby-bath-aid standard. The notice directs affected owners to stop use and contact the supplier for a replacement sling. Do not buy or use an affected unit with an unresolved recall; verify the history of older or imported stock. This notice concerns the specified Australian supply period, not an established recall of every current US Moby tub.
