Features4.5/5 · 30%

4.5/5Illumination, three power modes and a removable battery provide a useful feature set for frequent mixed-floor cleaning; the maximum runtime remains conditional.

Design4.2/5 · 30%

4.2/5The cordless stick arrangement suits quick movement and retrieval, although the charging position and bin-emptying space still need a deliberate home.

Versatility4.4/5 · 20%

4.4/5The format can serve floors and above-floor tasks with the correct supplied tools, but retailer bundle differences need checking before comparing value.

Ownership3.6/5 · 20%

3.6/5A removable battery creates a replacement option, while battery planning and the cost of extras make ownership less straightforward than simply plugging in a corded cleaner.

The Dyson V15 Detect makes the most sense in a home where the vacuum comes out frequently for relatively short jobs. Its attraction is the ability to move from a kitchen floor to stairs or a car without moving a cord between outlets. The buying decision should start with that routine, rather than the assumption that a higher model number makes every household clean easier.

What the design offers

Dyson lists an illuminating hard-floor head, an LCD display, Eco, Auto and Boost settings, and a removable click-in battery. The advertised runtime is up to 60 minutes; it is a maximum under specified conditions, not a promise that every attachment and power mode runs for an hour. Those distinctions matter when comparing a cordless cleaner with a machine that stays plugged in.

The illuminated head is most relevant if hard floors make up much of your home. A household dominated by carpet should place more emphasis on the supplied carpet tool, the handling of that head and the battery demands of its normal cleaning routine. Check the exact box contents: V15 bundles and retailer packages are not interchangeable simply because their names are similar.

Living with the purchase

Think about where the cleaner will charge before buying. A convenient spot near the rooms you clean most often can be more valuable than an extra accessory that remains in a cupboard. Also leave space to remove and empty the bin without holding it over a narrow wastebasket at an awkward angle. A cordless vacuum can remove one inconvenience while introducing several smaller ones if storage is an afterthought.

For a large weekly whole-house session, make a realistic room-by-room plan. A removable battery gives you an expansion option, but an additional battery is another purchase and another item to keep charged. If you prefer to clean until the job is finished without managing power, a corded canister or upright deserves equal consideration.

Verdict

The V15 Detect is a sensible shortlist choice for mixed-floor homes that value quick access and cordless movement. Its feature set is less compelling if the machine will spend most of its life cleaning one small carpeted room. Compare the complete package and replacement consumables, then choose according to your cleaning pattern rather than headline runtime alone.
