Salad Spinner Sizes: Compare Basket Capacity, Not Just the Bowl
The usable basket and your storage space are the measurements that matter.
Measure the normal batch
Think about how much produce you prepare at one time. A spinner that is too small can require many loads, while a large bowl can occupy valuable cupboard space for a task that rarely needs it. Choose around the typical meal rather than the largest gathering you can imagine.
Read both capacities
Manufacturers may quote the outer bowl and inner basket separately. OXO’s full-size spinner lists a larger bowl capacity than basket capacity. The basket is the part holding the greens, and it should not be packed so tightly that the intended movement is restricted.
Consider operation and cleaning
Pump, pull-cord and other mechanisms offer different handling. Check which motion is comfortable and how the basket is stopped. Then read the lid and bowl cleaning instructions. A mechanism that traps moisture or is awkward to clean for your routine can reduce the value of otherwise convenient controls.
Give it a storage plan
Measure the assembled tool and decide where the lid will go. If the bowl also serves another useful kitchen role, that can help justify the space. If not, a smaller model may be more sensible. The best spinner is one that matches the batch, is easy to clean and has a place to live between meals.
