WiiM Pro Plus Review: Keep the Stereo, Add Streaming

FULL ACCESS EDITORIAL RATING

4.2/ 5
4.2/5

The WiiM Pro Plus receives its strongest marks for integration and connection flexibility. Its value is conditional on having suitable equipment to connect.

Integration features4.5/5 · 35%

4.5/5Analog and digital connections allow a compatible existing stereo to gain network playback without replacing its amplifier and speakers.

System design4.0/5 · 25%

4/5A separate streamer keeps the source role distinct, making it a purposeful addition when the rest of the audio system is worth retaining.

Source flexibility4.5/5 · 20%

4.5/5The documented input and output choices support several audio paths, provided the settings and connected equipment match.

Ownership3.5/5 · 20%

3.5/5Cables, service compatibility and app configuration add steps, and the product does not include amplification for passive speakers.

The strongest use case

The WiiM Pro Plus is especially interesting when you already like an amplifier and speakers but want more convenient streaming. Replacing the entire system to gain network playback can be unnecessary. A separate streamer adds a new source while leaving the rest of the setup in place. That is the central value proposition, and it is more useful than treating the box as a cure for every aspect of an audio system.

Map the connections

WiiM documents analog line and optical inputs, along with analog and digital output choices. The exact path matters: connect the output appropriate to your amplifier or other receiving device, then select the matching setting in the app. It is not a speaker amplifier, so passive speakers still need suitable amplification. A turntable also needs the correct phono-stage arrangement before feeding a line-level input.

Services and control

Check that the streaming services and control methods you use are supported in your region and account tier. WiiM’s documentation covers network, Bluetooth and multi-room uses, but a desired feature should be confirmed as a complete chain from source to destination. Having several connection standards on a specification sheet does not mean every combination behaves the same way.

Budget for the whole path

Include the cables and any additional equipment needed to connect the existing system. If the amplifier already provides all the streaming functions you use, another box may add complexity rather than value. Conversely, a well-maintained older stereo can gain a useful new role without replacing its core components.

Verdict

The Pro Plus is a compelling category choice for an owner who wants to preserve an existing stereo while adding supported streaming and source flexibility. Its strongest feature is integration. Buyers wanting a one-box amplified system should compare a different type of product, while owners using only a digital output should consider whether the Pro Plus configuration offers benefits they will actually use.

Editorial score rationale
