Sony ULT FIELD 1 Review: A straightforward portable speaker with optional bass emphasis
Sony’s small ULT speaker prioritizes a carry strap, outdoor-friendly construction and a simple bass-mode button.

Review basis: This is a research-based editorial review of manufacturer documentation and published product specifications, not a hands-on test. Ratings reflect documented features and buying tradeoffs; performance claims are attributed to their sources.
An uncomplicated portable role
The ULT FIELD 1 is a sensible choice for people who want a Bluetooth speaker they can carry around without building a home streaming system. Its detachable strap and compact shape suit a picnic table, a small room or a casual outing. Sony identifies it as SRS-ULT10, a useful model code when comparing it with larger ULT speakers. The central appeal is directness: connect a phone, choose whether to use the ULT bass emphasis and listen. Buyers who need Wi-Fi multiroom features should look at a different type of speaker.
Bass control is a preference
The ULT button changes the speaker's bass emphasis. That gives the listener a quick way to choose a fuller presentation without navigating an app each time. It does not remove the limits of a small enclosure, and a stronger bass setting is not automatically the best setting for speech or every style of music. The useful feature is the choice itself. A buyer who listens mainly to podcasts may care more about placement and voice clarity than the bass mode that dominates the marketing.
Outdoor design with sensible boundaries
Sony specifies IP67 protection, with the charging-port cap properly closed, and describes a shock-resistant design. Those features support its portable purpose, but they should not be interpreted as permission to treat the speaker carelessly. The strap gives you another carrying or hanging option, and the body can be positioned vertically or horizontally. That flexibility is helpful on small or unevenly shaped spaces. Think about where the sound should face and whether the speaker can sit securely rather than assuming any available hook or ledge is an equally good location.
Battery and pairing considerations
The claimed maximum playback time is twelve hours, with volume and other conditions affecting the actual result. That is a reasonable planning allowance for a day outing with charging access afterward, but not a guarantee for a long weekend. USB-C charging fits a common cable kit. Two compatible ULT FIELD 1 speakers can form a stereo pair, which is different from expecting one small speaker to reproduce a wide stereo arrangement by itself. Check exact pairing compatibility before assuming another Sony portable model can join it in the same way.
Verdict
Choose the ULT FIELD 1 for a compact Bluetooth routine in which carrying convenience, flexible placement and an optional bass lift are useful. It is less compelling if extended battery endurance, a large outdoor listening area or home-network streaming is the priority. A larger speaker may be worth the extra bulk for group gatherings, while a simpler small model may suffice for speech and quiet background listening. Sony's design is most coherent as an everyday portable companion. Buy it for that role, with realistic expectations about the scale of sound a small enclosure can provide.
