Peak Design Mobile Tripod Review: A pocketable support for tabletop phone use
Peak Design’s magnetic tripod is most useful when a small adjustable stand will travel with the phone every day.

Review basis: This is a research-based editorial review of manufacturer documentation and published product specifications, not a hands-on test. Ratings reflect documented features and buying tradeoffs; performance claims are attributed to their sources.
Small enough to bring along
The Peak Design Mobile Tripod is aimed at people who regularly need a phone to stand on a table but do not want to carry a conventional mini tripod and clamp. Its folding aluminum legs attach magnetically to a compatible phone or case, creating a compact accessory that can remain close at hand. The practical benefit is availability: a support that is easy to carry is more likely to be present when a video call, group photograph or hands-free viewing session arises. That is a different purpose from a full-height photography tripod.
Attachment needs the right match
Peak Design supports its own case or Universal Adapter system and also describes compatibility with MagSafe phones and cases. The exact connection should be checked with the phone and case you use. A thick, nonmagnetic or unusually shaped case can change the arrangement, and attaching a magnetic accessory does not make every phone suitable. The tripod uses the magnetic side of the SlimLink system rather than behaving like a universal screw clamp. Budget for an appropriate case or adapter if your existing setup does not provide the required interface.
Angles rather than height
A small ballhead adjusts the phone's viewing or shooting angle, while the legs can be deployed for tripod or kickstand use. Portrait and landscape positioning broaden the range of desk tasks it can support. The legs do not provide the height adjustment of a conventional travel tripod, so the supporting surface determines the camera's basic elevation. For a video call, you may still need a shelf or raised platform to achieve a comfortable eye-level view. For outdoor photography, finding a suitable stable surface remains part of the process.
A maintained mechanical accessory
Peak Design integrates a small tuning key for adjusting ballhead tension, which is useful because the support needs to hold the chosen angle without becoming unnecessarily difficult to reposition. This is a mechanical accessory worth inspecting periodically, especially if it travels in pockets and bags. The anti-slip feet help define the contact points but do not make every table, railing or uneven surface appropriate. Consider the phone's position and the consequences of a tip before stepping away. A compact stand is most comfortable in controlled tabletop settings rather than exposed or precarious placements.
Verdict
Choose the Mobile Tripod when frequent tabletop calls, photographs or viewing justify a compact support that can stay with your phone. A simple fixed stand may be sufficient for a permanent desk, while a clamp-based mini tripod or full-height support offers different positioning possibilities. The Peak Design option earns its value through portability, adjustable angle and a compatible magnetic interface. It is less compelling if you need substantial height or rarely use the phone hands-free. Check case compatibility first, then decide whether its convenience will be used often enough to warrant a dedicated premium accessory.
