Count the keys you use
Notice whether you regularly use a number pad, function row, navigation cluster or dedicated arrows. A compact board can free desk space, but moving familiar commands behind shortcuts may slow an established routine. Choose the smallest layout that still supports the work comfortably.
A 75-percent board such as the Keychron V1 Max keeps a function row while omitting the full-size number pad. That can be a useful middle ground, provided numeric entry is not central to the day.
Compare complete packages
Fully assembled and barebone versions are different purchases. A barebone keyboard may require separate switches and keycaps, so compare the completed cost. Check the regional layout and operating-system keycaps rather than relying on a single marketing photograph.
Try switch types where possible. Color names are not a universal description across brands, and a preference for one tactile or linear design should not be assumed from another model's label.
Check configuration access
Remapping and macros can be useful when they solve specific repeated tasks. Confirm the supported configuration tool and whether your computer permits it. A work environment may restrict browser-based hardware access or software installation.
Finally, consider sound in the actual room. A keyboard that is enjoyable alone may be distracting on shared calls or in a quiet office. Buy the layout and connection method first, then refine the switch choice. That order makes customization serve the work rather than turning the purchase into a collection of unrelated features.
